Sioux Falls Falls Park in South Dakota. Here are the best things to do in Sioux Falls

Sioux Falls is found in South Dakota and is worth the trip! Here are 5 fun things to do in Sioux Falls for all those adventure lovers out there.

1. Helicopter Ride in Sioux Falls

The first thing on our list of fun things to do in Sioux Falls is a helicopter ride over this beautiful town. Ride The Sky offers private charters for travelers to the area including if you want to celebrate special events, dinner dates, engagements, weddings, and anniversaries.

This was the best way to explore the area as you have a birds-eye view of Sioux Falls and the incredible land around it. I would recommend doing this on your first day of your trip to Sioux Falls because it’s a great introduction to the area.

Helicopter ride in Sioux Falls South Dakota. This is one of the best things to do in Sioux Falls while visiting!

This was my first helicopter ride and to be honest, I was a little bit nervous. I’m not scared of heights or anything, but sometimes new things can be scary.

My fears dissipated though shortly after we took off. The ride is very smooth, safe, and of course, the views are beautiful. Don’t miss this activity while visiting Sioux Falls!

2. Hot Air Balloon Ride in Sioux Falls

What could be more adventurous (and romantic if you’re traveling with babe) than a hot air ballon ride in Sioux Falls! 605 Balloon Ride offers shared and private hot air balloon rides in Sioux Falls that is a must when you travel to Sioux Falls!

During your trip you’ll see beautiful farmland, along with stunning city views. You’ll also be impressed with the river, hills, valleys, and the South Dakota grasslands.

So whether you’re traveling with your family, friends, or by yourself, this is the perfect thing to do in Sioux Falls for all the thrill-seekers.

3. Kayaking in Sioux Falls

Nothing better than enjoying the day on the water of the Sioux River during your trip!

I would recommend renting a kayak in Sioux Falls from Sioux Falls Kayak & Bike Rentals. Why? Because they are a locally owner business that deliver and pick up your rentals! All you need to do is call or text 605-310-2070 to schedule you kayak rental. These rentals usually run about $50 a day.

Kayaking in Sioux Falls reminded me of kayaking in Twin Falls, Idaho!

If you are simply looking for kayak rentals in Sioux Falls and don’t need the transporting options, then rent from either Nyberg’s Ace or  Sun ‘n Fun.

Don’t feel that confident in your ability to kayak or maybe this is your first time? No worries! Sioux Empire Paddlers is a nonprofit organization that offers tours and guide services down a local river or nearby lake.

These tours start at $35 and then go up from that depending on the exact services you’re looking for. Please contact Will at will@siouxempirepaddlers.org for more information or to book your trip.

The last option you have is enjoy kayaking for free at The Outdoor Campus. They have a lake that their instructors can accompany you on but you’ll need to set up arrangements with them beforehand.

4. Hiking in Sioux Falls

Being based in Utah for several years, I had the pleasure of enjoying many different trails in the dense mountains along with the red rock desert. So I was so happy when I found out that Sioux Falls is a hikers paradise!

Here are the top places that you can enjoy the trails-

  • Palisades State Park
  • Leaders Park
  • Great Bear Recreation Area
  • Falls Park and the Big Sioux River Recreation Trail and Greenway
  • Good Earth State Park at Blood Run
  • Beaver Creek Nature Area

5. Biking in Sioux Falls

The best biking trail in Sioux Falls is the Sioux Falls Bike Trail. This beautiful trail is about 19 miles long and is great for all levels. There are many entrance points to this trail so you can make it as long or short as you want.

Rent a bike from Nyberg’s Ace Rental (the same Ace that you can rent a kayak at), Spoke-N-Sport, or Harlan’s Bike & Tour. However, if you are looking for pick-up and drop-off options, then I would go with Sioux Falls Kayak & Bike Rentals
