Hermann Missouri is a quaint German town along the Missouri River located about 1.5 hours from St. Louis and 2.5 hours from Kansas City. Here are the top things to do in Hermann Missouri along with local attractions to see while visiting this historic town.
Stay in a treehouse
There are so many places to stay in Hermann, MO that it might be a bit overwhelming to decide. In my opinion, the most unique bed and breakfast in Hermann MO would be The Cottage!
You have four different options while staying with The Cottage. There are three treehouses and one cabin. One of their treehouses is wheelchair accesible and the cabin has a hot tub on the deck.
I’m sure every season is incredible to visit, but I especially loved the Fall time with the changing leaves. It made for a fantastic evening with the cooler weather while soaking in the hot tub. The Cottage even offers breakfast in the morning with a delicious menu that is always being rotated.
This is a great bed and breakfast in the Hermann area that is perfect for couples or for the entire family.
Go Golfing in Hermann Mo
Take a short drive over to the Loutre Shore Country Club which is a 9-hole golf course about 15 minutes from downtown Hermann to enjoy a nice afternoon on the green.
Bike The Katy Trail
The Katy Trail is 240 miles long and passes through the northern part of Hermann. What I love about this route is that it’s great for both bikers and hikers because of the flat, paved trail. This is the longest rails-to-trails project in the US and not to be missed during your visit.
Hit the Hiking Trails in Hermann
In addition to the Katy Trail, you can also enjoy trails at the Little Lost Creek Conservation Area and the Daniel Boone Conservation Area. The top trail that leads to a scenic overlook is called the Grand Bluffs Trail. Here are some directions in order to find the trailhead.
Hermann Wine Trail
The Hermann Wine Trail is a very popular tourist attraction in this german town. It “is a group of seven family owned wineries located in the beautiful Hermann, Missouri area. From quaint country farm settings to historic majestic wine cellars, you will experience our rich history and a variety of wine styles.”
Many visitors say that Hermann wine is the best they’ve ever had so this wine trail is worth the stop. The seven wineries in Hermann include Stone Hill Winery, Robller Vineyard, OakGlen Vineyards, Hermannhof Winery, Dierberg Star Lane, Bias Vineyards, and Adam Puchta Winery.
Enjoy Fine Dining in Hermann Mo
You’ll be eating your way through Hermann due to the abundance of A+ restaurants and their delicious food. A few restaurants in Hermann MO that need to be on your list include Wurst Haus, Tin Mill Brewery, Alpenhorn Kitchen, 4th Street Pizza, and the Vintage Restaurant.
Visit A Historic Site In Hermann
If you’re a history buff, then you’ll want to add this next activity to your list. Tourists can discover a part of German-American heritage by visiting the Deutschheim State Historic Site.
This historic site “preserves two structures that reflect the 1840s and 1850s when Germans first settled the Missouri River valley that reminded them of home.” Check out this website for more information on this awesome state historic site.
Take a Tour
I love taking tours led by locals when visiting a new city because you really are able to get a better sense of the area, culture, and history. Hermann offers several different styles of tours including a trolley tour by Hermann Crown Suites, an Eco Adventure Zipline Tour, a self-guided walking tour at Hermann Farm, or a Wine Country Wagon Ride.
Satisfy Your Sweet Tooth
There’s no better way to end the night than by satisfying your cravings at one of the many sweet shops in Hermann. Be sure to visit Ricky’s Chocolate Box, Sugar Momma’s, Downtown Deli & Custard Shoppe, and the Battocletti Bake Shoppe. The German Turtle Chocolates were amazing!
