Don’t Miss- 10 Surprising Things To Do In Omaha, Nebraska (That You Probably Didn’t Know About)
1. Go swimming and relax in the hot tub at the Lied Lodge
The first romantic activity that makes it on our ‘Romantic Things To Do In Nebraska City’ list is taking a dip! There are several different accommodation options in Nebraska City but I recommend booking your stay at the Lied Lodge.
In addition to all the amazing benefits you’ll receive by staying, one of the best is getting access to their olympic-sized swimming pool, Jacuzzi, and cedar sauna.
Steve and I loved that the entire pool area was heated to the ideal temperature because it made lounging on the patio chairs amazing. Nothing more romantic than soaking up the sun from those huge windows and french doors!
2. Go on a nature walk
Some of the best ways that Steve and I reconnect is through walks. It’s the ideal time to chat about anything and everything. You’ll have plenty of opportunities to do just that in Nebraska City by hitting up some of the best hiking trails in Nebraska City.
The best hiking trails/nature walks include the Steamboat Trace Trail, Lilac Walk & Tree Trail, and Doug’s Trail.
Pictured below is Doug’s Trail and this one was our favorite. The trail starts just behind the Lied Lodge. The path winds through a breathtaking forest and over quaint bridges ending at the Arbor Day Farm.
3. Go apple picking
Work as a team to pick some of the best apples in the state at an apple orchard in Nebraska City! The best apple orchards in Nebraska City include the Arbor Day Farm, Union Orchard, and Kimmel Orchard.
We choose to check out the Arbor Day Farm because it was so close to our home. Apple picking in Nebraska City happens during the Fall so if that’s an activity you’re interested in, be sure to book your trip then.
4. Get a massage
Ever since getting my first massage in Kansas City, I’m a believer of the power that they can have! Book a couples massage at the Lied Lodge to have a romantic moment together. I recommend choosing the apple blossom massage. Treat yourself!
5. Have breakfast with a view at the Timberline Dining Room
This restaurant easily made the ‘Top Romantic Things To Do in Nebraska City’ list! Why? Because it may just be the most scenic spot to get breakfast! You don’t need to be a guest at the Lied Lodge to enjoy the Timberline Dining Room, which is located on-site at the Lodge.
You can’t go wrong with choosing the breakfast buffet option and trying all different kinds of their food. If the weather is nice, request to sit out on the patio.
6. Go on a hunt for the best murals in Downtown Nebraska City
Nebraska City is full of great food, so why not work off some of those calories by hunting for murals in downtown Nebraska City together.
You’ll find most of these murals right along Central Street. Park at one end and walk up and down that main road and you’ll find at least 10 different, interesting murals!
7. Get fresh apple donuts at The Apple Market
Nothing says Nebraska City like apples. However, apple donuts come in as a close second! The best apple donuts in Nebraska City can be found at the Apple Market along Central Street in Downtown Nebraska City. (They are so good that you might want to consider bringing some back for your friends).
8. Go on a scavenger hunt for trees
While you are downtown searching for murals, also be on the lookout for beautiful, hand-painted trees (featured below). The tourism board in Nebraska city has provided a map of where you can find them. Put a competitive edge to this activity and see who can find the most!
9. Release your inner child at the Tree Adventure
While this may seem like just a kid activity, Steve and I actually quite enjoyed ourselves at the Tree Adventure! Hike along forested trails and climb a 50-foot-tall treehouse.
The new treetop village was opening up the day after we were visiting so we didn’t get the chance to experience that so that’s something you might want to try.
10. Take a tour of a mansion
Visit the Founder of Arbor’s Day estate at the Arbor Lodge State Historical Park and Arboretum. The Lodge Mansion belonged to J. Sterling Morton, who of course, was the Father of Arbor Day.
Not only is the mansion incredible to walk through, but the 65 acre property is stunning too. This is a great activity to do as a couple, especially if one is a history buff and wants to learn more!
I throughly enjoyed our visit and will always remember that experience every time the Arbor Day holiday in the United States rolls around each year on the last Friday of April.
11. Go golfing as a couple
There are three golf courses in Nebraska city that you can choose from. These include Arbor Links, Wildwood Golf Course and The Golf Club at Table Creek. If you are a guest at the Lied Lodge, be sure to get the package that includes a discounted rate to Arbor Links!
Hotels in Nebraska City
We of course loved our stay at the Lied Lodge and 100% recommend it because it seems to be in the center of all the best activities! However, if you’re looking for other options, the best hotels in Nebraska City include the Deluxe Inn, Holiday Inn Express, Best Western and the Whispering Pines Bed and Breakfast.

Nebraska City Weather
Nebraska City weather is typical for the Midwest. The summers can reach up to 100 degrees while the winter you may see snow and some ice. I’m positive that anytime of the year would be excellent to visit, however, the best time to visit Nebraska City is late summer or fall.
Nebraska City Directions
Nebraska City is about 45 minutes south of Omaha, an hour drive from Lincoln, and 2hrs and 15 mins north of Kansas City. If you are flying in from out of town, I would suggest catching a flight to Omaha and then renting a car from there.
