As I’m sure you are well aware, Americans are moving. And not just a small group, but 56% of Americans recently surveyed said they plan to move in 2021! Wow, that’s a large percentage!
Especially when you compare that to 2020 when just 35% said they planned on moving that year. This largely is due to the rise in remote work opportunities and desire to relocate to less densely populated areas (I mean, can you blame people for wanting to get out of the big cities)?
Our 2021 Moving Experience
In March of 2021, we packed up our home in Omaha, NE, and took a job in Idaho Falls, ID (like many other Americans moving to this now popular state).
While I was doing my research on moving companies in the US I was bombarded by so many different businesses and moving options. I wanted to find a moving company that was budget-friendly yet didn’t leave us to do all the work (moving is hard!)

That’s when I stumbled onto U-Pack, this long-distance moving company fit perfectly in my price range of what I wanted to spend and actually did the moving for me! Hooray for not needing to drive a big truck through those Wyoming winds!
Budget-Friendly (Only pay for what you need)
U-Pack is the long-distance moving service that made sure we stayed on budget! What I loved about this company is that you pay only for the space you use. This means you’ll know the exact price as you load.
When I was researching I found some companies that were going to charge me close to $5,000 for a full-service move (which was completely out of our price range). However, U-Pack costs are based on the linear footage used in the moving trailer (we used 18 feet) which meant we didn’t have to pay for the entire trailer, just the space we used!
Here’s a great article comparing all of the costs of moving that are not typically thought about.
Fun fact- In 2020 California was the top state for outbound moves and Idaho was the top state for inbound relocations.
Another reason of why I loved moving with U-Pack was how easy the whole process was! Below are the four basic steps.
- An empty trailer is delivered to your home
- You load your belongings
- They drive across the country to your new location
- You unload
It’s that simple! You don’t have to worry about picking up and dropping off the moving equipment as they can bring it right to your home!
We’ve moved quite a few times during our 6 years of marriage but this was by far the most stress-free move we’ve ever made. In the past, we’ve used a truck rental (which we thought was a simple way to move) but it turned out there was a ton of extra planning and coordination involved.
On the other hand, with U-Pack we didn’t need to worry about driving a large vehicle, returning equipment, renting supplies, finding local stores, etc.
We LOVED the fact that they drove the trailer to our new home for us! This left Steve available to drive his own car and didn’t need to figure out towing options. This also allowed me and the baby to take a flight to our new home!
While you get up to three business days to load and three business days to unload, the transit time for U-Packvaverages just 2-5 business days!
We added U-Pack Guaranteed and got the peace-of-mind knowing the exact day that they would deliver our belonging to our new place. This made it convenient for us to schedule helpers (aka our family members) to be there that day to help us unload.
“With a U-Pack reservation, your move date is always guaranteed, but transit times are estimated. If you want more certainty on delivery times and dates:
- Ask about a guaranteed 1- or 2-hour delivery window
- Select an exact delivery date at your destination”
If you are planning to move in 2021 and looking for a great moving company, I totally recommend U-Pack!
