Heber, Utah. Ever heard of it? We’ve lived in Utah for the last several years and it never crossed our minds to adventure there until this past week. And man, do I wish we would have visited earlier. Heber is the ultimate destination for outdoor lovers and adventure seekers. I also think this is a foodie paradise! If you are like me and start planning out your summer vacations way in advance, then I would add this small (yet, rapidly growing city) to your summer list!
Where to stay-
Zella’s House! A perfectly situated (and decorated) Victorian Cottage located in the middle of Heber. This beautiful mountain town Airbnb is serious #homegoals. A few of the aspects we loved were the outdoor patio, the comfortable seating, and the incredible tub! The attention to detail was incredible as there were bath bombs from a local lavender farm available, Utah truffles waiting on the bed, and the fridge and pantry stocked with small treats (because we all get snacky at nights!) We also appreciated the friendly host- Camille is the best! Look no further than Zella’s House when planning out your Heber Getaway.
You can book your stay here. Enjoy $55 dollar coupon for your airbnb booking!
Things to do-
Heber Valley Historic Railroad
One of the coolest things you can do while visiting Heber Valley is to take a train ride on the historic railroad! The route offers incredible views and vistas and is fairly inexpensive. Depending on the trip that you choose, it can take anywhere from one and a half hours to three hours round trip. During the summer you can participate in the Rafts ‘n Rails excursion (river rafting coupled with a train ride.) You can find their website here.
Wasatch Mountain State Park
I am not too great at golfing but Steve sure loves it, so this park is the perfect place to spend an afternoon at! You can reserve a tee time at one of the four 18-hole golf courses and work on your swing. Or be like me and just watch someone else work on their game 😉 If golfing isn’t your thing you can also hike, bike, ATV or horseback along the miles and miles of beautiful mountain trails.
Solider Hollow
Solider Hollow is only a stone’s throw away from downtown Heber and is where you can enjoy a scenic horseback ride high on the south slope of the historic Soldier Hollow Valley. Not only do you get an amazing experience with your travel buddies, but you’ll also enjoy views of the Wasatch Mountains, including Mount Timpanogos and Deer Creek Reservoir. There are plenty of people that argue that Soldier Hollow is one of the most beautiful mountain valleys on the Wasatch back!
Curious on how you can make this an even more epic adventure? Combine your horseback riding experience with mountain-top yoga! That’s right. Rocky Mountain Outfitters offers a scenic horseback trail that leads you to a mountain field where you will then be instructed in a yoga session. Sign me up!
Homestead Crater
Scuba diving and snorkeling in Utah? Yup, you heard right! Located near Heber, Utah you’ll find the Homestead Crater. The only warm scuba diving destination in the entire United States. It attracts visitors from all across the world because of its’ unique location. It attracted me with the 96-degree water! We didn’t try scuba diving (but saw many people giving it a go), rather practiced our snorkeling skills in preparation for our upcoming Hawaii Trip. Honestly though, it was quite nice just strapping on the lifejacket and floating in the mineral water. In addition to those activities, they also offer a paddleboard yoga class.
Check Groupon before you go as there is usually a promotion running.
Want to explore more of Utahs’ Hot Springs? I’ve written about the top (and somewhat secret) hot springs here!
Zipline Utah
This summer getaway wouldn’t be complete without an exhilarating experience with Zipline Utah. You’ll find the longest course in the country here that zips above Rainbow Bay. In addition to the 10 zip lines, they also have 7 suspension aerial bridges. For the entire 2 mile course, you’ll never touch the ground. Plus, you’ll get to enjoy spectacular views of the Wasatch Mountains and Deer Creek Lake.
Where to Eat
Recommended to us by a local, The Old Goat has got to be on your foodie list. In addition to the delicious food, you’ll get to feel like you’re back in the Wild West with the buildings in the square. Other top recommendations include Main St. Social, Snake Creek Grill, and Back 40. And if you don’t stop at Dairy Keen for an ice-cream shake, you’ll be missing out!
We hope you enjoy your summer getaway to Heber, Utah as much as we did!
