If you’re searching for some memorable holiday plans this season, look no further than the Country Club Plaza. Opened in 1923, it actually was the first regional shopping center to accommodate shoppers arriving by car. Nowadays, it’s still an incredible center for shopping along with many dining options, upscale hotels and unique experiences!
Here are 5 things to do that would make even the Grinch happy!
1. Take The Self-Guided Evergy Plaza Lights Tour
Especially during this socially distance time we’re living in, enjoying a self-guided walking tour can be a safe, family-friendly activity. This narrated tour will take you all throughout the 15-block Evergy Plaza Lights display.
“Throughout the tour, find the best spots to view the lights, snap a selfie and enjoy a few complimentary treats along the way, including a Evergy Plaza Light Bulb souvenir, thanks to our friends at Evergy.” You can learn more here.
2. Book A Room At The Fontaine Hotel
Located steps away from the main street of the Country Club Plaza, you’ll find this sophisticated hotel that is perfect for staycations or incoming travelers. The designers had an eye for detail that can be seen from the custom tile mosaics, Renaissance artwork, Venetian glass chandeliers and contrasting textures of wood paneling and marble.
The Fontaine Hotel is home to the Parker Bar & Lounge (currently closed) and a unique 7th floor bar (more on that later). What I loved about staying here besides the elegant accommodations and proximity to the Plaza was the friendliness of the staff! Book a room here and you won’t be disappointed.
3. Rent an igloo for a night
Make some memories with friends this season by booking an igloo at the Nine Zero One Igloo Bar, located on the rooftop of the Fontaine Hotel. This pop up experience is open for a limited time from November 27, 2020 – February 15, 2021. These igloos are something even Scrooge couldn’t say no to!
General admission seating starts at 4pm and igloo reservations start at 5pm. You can make your reservation here.
If you don’t book an igloo, you can still enjoy the aesthetic of the Scandinavian ice lands inside on the 7th floor. They have a fully themed cocktail menu and shareable tapas inspired by traditional dishes from Scandinavia.
4. Indulge At The Country Club Plaza Restaurants

Don’t want to go far for dinner, the Fontaine Hotel has partnered with JAX Fish House & Oyster Bar to provide mobile ordering and delivery straight to your room or the rooftop.
Additionally, you’ll find loads of dining options ranging from quick bites like Shake Shack to upscale eateries like The Capital Grille. You can see a full listing of restaurants in the Country Club Plaza here.
5. Go shopping
Last but not least, check off that holiday shopping list by visiting the plethora of both chain stores & local shops at the Country Club Plaza. You’ll find everything from jewelry and home decor to handbags and clothing.
I really loved the Made In KC Marketplace and Charlie Hustle as I was shopping for gifts for my family.
