Fairbanks is brimming with activities that are perfect for families. Here are some must-visit spots that will be great for the entire family:
1. Pioneer Park
Pioneer Park is a fantastic destination for families, offering a glimpse into Alaska’s rich history. This 44-acre park features historic buildings, museums, and playgrounds. The kids will love exploring the vintage train, playing on the playgrounds, and shopping through the unique shops. During the summer, the park hosts live performances and events that are perfect for a family picnic.
2. The Children’s Museum
The Fairbanks Children’s Museum is a haven for younger kids, filled with interactive exhibits that encourage learning through play. With areas dedicated to science, art, and Alaskan culture, the museum provides hours of fun and educational entertainment. It’s a great spot to let the kids burn off some energy, especially on colder days.
3. Gold Daughters
For a truly Alaskan experience, head over to Gold Daughters, where your family can try their hand at gold panning. This hands-on experience is not only fun but also a great way to learn about Alaska’s gold rush history. The knowledgeable staff will guide you through the process and my three year old was even able to do it.
4. Dog Cart Tours
Dog sledding is synonymous with Alaska, and while the snow might be seasonal, the excitement isn’t! During the warmer months, dog cart tours offer a thrilling alternative to traditional sledding. Your family will get to meet the sled dogs, learn about their training, and experience a ride through the stunning Alaskan wilderness. It’s an adventure your kids will never forget! There is one located at Chena Hot Springs Resort.
5. Chena Hot Springs
After a day of adventure, unwind at Chena Hot Springs, located about an hour from Fairbanks. The soothing waters of the hot springs are perfect for relaxation, and the resort offers an indoor pool for younger children. In the winter, the springs provide a prime location for viewing the Northern Lights. Don’t forget to explore the Aurora Ice Museum on-site, where you can marvel at intricate ice sculptures year-round.
