Most people visiting Moab and Arches National Park are on the hunt to spot incredible red rock arches, but sadly, miss out on this arch because it is not found in the park! Located just west of Moab, the Corona Arch stands for all visitors to marvel at that are willing to make the short hike. Bonus- you’ll also be able to see the Bowtie Arch along the way! This IMHO is the best hike in Moab, Utah! Also, it’s great that you don’t have to pay an entrance fee!

Best Hike in Moab- Corona Arch Hike

The trailhead starts along the beautiful Potash Road. There is a sign along with a parking lot about 10 miles down said road. If you get there during the afternoon, the small parking lot may be at capacity forcing you to park alongside the road next to the Colorado River.

Hike Details

The hike is 3 miles roundtrip and is family friendly. So bring your kids along! Don’t forget your water though because there is limited shade. I would also recommend good hiking shoes as you will need a grip for two parts of the hike.

You’ll begin by climbing several small flights of red rock stairs before coming to railroad tracks. Carefully cross the railroad tracks and continue on the open slick rock trail.

If you are finding cairns along the way, you’re on the right track.

You’ll next get to a ladder bolted to the rock. As you are climbing you’ll begin to see Bowtie Arch in the background. Can you spot it in the photo below?

After climbing the ladder, the trail continues on top of the bench. Carefully walk along that bench and the trail will dump you right underneath Bowtie Arch. We entertained ourselves by Steve standing near the arch and whispering phrases while I stood further off in the distance. It’s so crazy how the slightest sounds will travel!

After exploring Bowtie Arch, you’ll continue along the bench to find Corona Arch. This massive arch is incredibly photogenic so don’t forget your camera!

After you are done exploring both Bowtie Arch and Corona Arch, you’ll go back the same way that you came.
