Ever heard of Kanab, Utah? I sure hadn’t until I was looking at a map about two months ago. We were planning on doing a Southern Utah Road Trip during Spring Break, and as I always do, I turned to google maps. When I know that we will be driving along a route that is unfamiliar I like to check to make sure we aren’t passing by any hidden gems along the way. We once drove past two amazing hot springs that were sitting so close to the highway and I didn’t find out until after we had gotten back from that road trip! So I now make sure to scout the area to avoid missing something truly spectacular. And that is exactly how I stumbled onto the town and these 5 adventurous things to do in Kanab!

Sitting between the east entrance of Zion National Park and Page, Arizona, lies Kanab (next to Orderville Utah). We were planning on driving straight through to get to Horseshoe Bend (one of my all-time favorite places) but I decided to do a little bit of research about this small city. Luckily, I stumbled onto the official website for Visit Southern Utah and after skimming for less than 5 minutes, I was sold! We completely changed the course of our road trip and planned to stay in Kanab for about two days. This article is about 5 adventurous things to do in Kanab along with where to stay and where to eat in Kanab Utah.

Hotels, Motels, & Bed & Breakfast in Kanab-

There are so many choices to when picking your lodging in Kanab Utah (there’s even camping in Kanab!) The town has many choices but we were lucky enough to stay at the Canyons Boutique Hotel. The boutique-styled rooms make you feel right at home along with their incredibly friendly staff. The room was spacious, inviting, and provided exactly what we needed. On the bed, they had even left us a note about what the weather was going to be like the upcoming day so we could better prepare our plans. We loved the attention to detail! At night, we snuggled on the couches outside enjoying the fireplace. The next morning the hot breakfast buffet was exactly what we needed to start our day off right.

Things To Do In Kanab-

Rent ATV’s in Kanab, Utah

We were lucky enough to experience the Peek-A-Boo Slot Canyon ATV Tour and it made the list of our top ATV Tours hands down! You will meet them downtown Kanab where they will then drive you to the trailhead. From there, you’ll get to jump into one of their nice ATV’s and start cruising. We’ve driven ATV’s before but believe that even a beginner could happily enjoy this trail. Our guide was always checking on us and making sure that we were doing okay. 20 minutes into the tour you’ll arrive at the Peek-A-Boo Slot Canyon (Red Canyon).

I was able to experience Antelope Canyon in Arizona just a few months earlier and I have to say that if I had to choose a favorite, it would be this slot canyon. We hardly saw any other people and there was plenty of time to stop and take pictures. What’s more is that because it was a small group size, we really got to learn a lot from our guide about the history of this slot canyon. After having some time to explore, we hopped back on the ATV’s and rode through backcountry trails. We would occasionally stop and learn detailed facts about the area which was perfect for my history-loving husband. I’m confident in saying every tour with Kanab Tour Company would be amazing but the Peek-A-Boo Slot Canyon tour will always be a fond memory of ours!

Explore the Moqui Caverns

Where are the Moqui caverns?  These caverns can be seen from the road, just off highway 89. You’ll find these Moqui Caverns in between the Best Friends Animal Sanctuary in Kanab and the Moqui Cave. There is a small pull-out on the far side of the road where you can park and cross the street to get to the trailhead. The trail is short but does involve some climbing so wear proper shoes. If you are looking to photograph the caves, visit right before sunset to get beautiful lighting. We didn’t have time during the evening to visit but it was still incredibly beautiful during the afternoon.

Check out the Belly of the Dragon in Kanab

This tunnel is actually underneath highway 89, but you would never know that by looking at the photos! Here are detailed directions on how to find this spot and we highly recommend that you do!

Spend time at the Toadstool Hoodoos

East of Kanab, you can visit a place that will leave you feeling like you just stepped foot on Mars. The hike is less than 3 miles round trip and leads to incredible rock formations. We hardly saw anyone on the trail and had plenty of time and space to explore this unique area. Another bonus is that the trail is quite easy allowing all skill levels to enjoy it.

Restaurants in Kanab

Kanab is quickly becoming a foodie scene. Walking along the main road you’ll see uniquely decorated restaurants all with different menus that are going to please even the pickiest of eaters. We decided on visiting the Rocking V Restaurant and it did not disappoint! I choose the Supreme Gastro-Queen Pasta while Steve enjoyed the Rocking V Meatloaf. And of course, we had to get dessert with homemade bread pudding on the menu! We even splurged and got a dreamy slice of cheesecake in addition to the bread pudding.

Another few suggestions that we heard were great from the locals would be The Sego Restaurant and the Kanab Creek Bakery!
