Paris is one of the most romantic, adventurous, beautiful cities in the world! During our short time there, we made a few mistakes that we were wishing we could undo. But alas, there’s no rewind button on trips so I figured I would share our mistakes so that you could avoid making them during your time in Paris!

What Not to Do in Paris, France! Avoid this mistakes on your next trip to Paris!

Mistake #1

Decide that you can walk EVERYWHERE. Just don’t do it. Even if you wan’t to beat your entire family on the Fitbit daily showdown. This was our number one regret while visiting the city.

We wanted to save a little money and thought that it would be a good idea to just walk to all of the highlights. By the end of the day we estimated that we had walked over 10 miles.

What you should do instead:

Book a Hop on Hop off Bus Tour! We fell in love with them while we were in London and Rome and will always recommend them. You will be able to see all of the sites without killing your feet. Most people book through Big Bus Tours but before purchasing check Groupon to see if they have a better deal.

Mistake #2

Booking a rental far away from the touristy side of Paris. In an effort to save money, we booked an airbnb quite a long way from where are the sites are. We ended up spending that same money that we were planning on saving on transportation to get us to and from our airbnb.

What you should do instead:

Book either an airbnb or hotel near a site that you’ve had on your bucket list for quite some time! I would recommend staying near the Eiffel Tower or Notre Dame. Here’s $55 dollars for your next airbnb adventure!

If you are looking for a hotel, check booking.com! They always have the best deals. You can try it out below by typing in a monument, site, or any address of something that is on the top of your list and it will find the best deals for nearby hotels.

Mistake #3

Trying to see it all in one day. It’s impossible and if you think you can get everywhere within 24 hours, you’ll be very sad. Avoid the disappointment by prioritizing what is most important to you and your travel buddies.

Spend time at the site taking in the view, getting to the history, or simply do a bit of people watching. Our top sites included the Louvre, Eiffel Tower, Tuileries Garden, and Sacre Coeur Cathedral.

Mistake #4

Eat only the food that you are accustomed to. Paris is known around the world for their fantastic food and dishes! Don’t miss out on the experience because you are scared of trying something new. I am such a picky eater and opted out of a lot of the French traditional dishes that I now regret not trying.

What you should do instead

Find local food trucks, stands, and family owned restaurants and get sample platters. This is a great way to try a wide variety of food without spending a fortune at an up-scale restaurant.
